4 Tips to Save Big on Date Nights
Many times, date night brings the thought of fancy restaurants and $50 bottles of wine to mind. Most couples can’t afford that. But who says date night has to be expensive? I write about weekly dates my husband and I go on for $20 or less. We’ve been at this for nine months now and we’re not planning on stopping any time soon. Not only do we save tons of money on date night, but we’re also having a blast.
Here are some of my secrets to save money while strengthening your marriage at the same time:
1. Check the coupons in your mail. Many times, local restaurants will feature buy-on-get-one-free offers. Rip these out and save them for your next date night! Other options: Entertainment Books (they’re really cheap right now), Happy Hour, and online coupon sites like livingsocial.com.
2. While the weather is nice, check out local outdoor events in your area. Near Seattle (where we live) there are tons of farmer’s markets everywhere. Free concerts and movies are also plentiful. Try an online search to see what choices are available for free dates in your area.
3. Try a date at the gym. If you already have a membership, it won’t cost you anything to go work out together. My husband and I have done this a few times and it was fun. He showed me how to use all those big and intimidating weight lifting machines. Going on a bike ride or walk somewhere is also a great way to double fitness with quality time together. It’s a change of scenery and endorphin boost that every couple needs on a regular basis.
4. One of our favorites: the coffee and dessert date. This is a great way to try out local coffee shops without spending a lot of money. The nice part? You can linger and catch up with each other without worrying about someone waiting for your table.
